Military epaulettes and ranks are ornamental and decorative accessories for military uniforms. The Uganda People’s Defence Force’s military insignia is a military rank. Military ranks can be applied to any military uniform, but epaulettes can only be applied to military ceremony suits. Military textile companies use a variety of materials to make military ranks and epaulettes. Military ranks are typically made of a variety of fabrics, but the best material to use is polyurethane. Military epaulets are frequently made with metallic colors such as gold or silver.
Soldiers require premium quality military ranks and epaulettes to avoid any complications during military events or ceremonies. As previously stated, soldiers wear military epaulets on uniforms, but police officers also wear epaulets on several occasions. Since each country has its police uniform design, officers will wear epaulets or not, depending on the characteristics of the design. In Uganda, military ranks and epaulets are mixed. Uganda’s air forces, like those of other African countries, use army-style rank insignia.
Why Military Ranks and Military Epaulettes are Important?
Military epaulettes and ranks are important for soldiers to stand out. Since the late 1700s, the military epaulet has been used in the army. This ornamental decoration was used to identify a specific position in the armed forces back then. Captains, for example, were given two gold or silver ribbons to distinguish themselves. In the past, military ranks and epaulettes were used in the same way. However, some armies around the world still use military epaulettes as ranks. In other armies, the epaulettes are only used as an ornamental decoration to add more elegance to the soldier’s uniform.
Military ranks are used by soldiers to determine their occupation, length of service, and authority over other soldiers. The importance of wearing the military rank is to other soldiers can be able to see the rank authority and degree. Even if soldiers don’t know others, they can know colors like green and blue are the military ranks for commissioned officers. The green one is for Ugandan Land Forces and the blue one is for Ugandan Air Forces. However, officer cadets of the Ugandan Air Force use white military ranks.

Military Ranks and Military Epaulettes Application Methods
In Neutron Gear we use various application methods for military ranks and military epaulettes. Sewing and velcro are the most commonly used methods for applying military ranks on the uniform. Military ranks are often embroidered on military caps and uniform sleeves. We use one more application method called “Application on coated or heat-sensitive fabrics”. With this method, the military ranks are applied to coated or heat-sensitive fabrics in frequency machines.
This waterproofing method is suitable for a variety of fabrics, including fleece, wool, waterproof material, artificial leather, and genuine leather as well. The process of applying military epaulettes is different. Epaulettes are fastened to the shoulder by a shoulder strap* passing through the holes in the shoulder of the ceremony coat. Commonly, any shoulder straps with markings are also called epaulettes.
* It is a thin strap on the outside of the back, with a button on the underside of the epaulette.
